10 Ways to Refresh Your Social Media PresenceWhile the new year is a great time to re-examine your social media presence, any time of the year is appropriate to do this type of audit. There are some key areas of your social media presence that could go out of date or require your attention. Here are 10 things you may need or want to refresh. 1. Bios and links. The bios and live link areas of each of your social networks should be fairly consistent but will often vary due to different character limits. Double check that the way you’re describing your company is still relevant and current and that the link or links you’ve listed in the bio section are still working. 2. About sections. Each social network provides different places where you can provide key details about your company, from expanded descriptions such as on LinkedIn to physical addresses, extra contact information, and legal and security sections. Go through the admin side of each of your social networks to make sure you have filled out everything and that nothing has changed. 3. Branding. Check all the branding on the social networks that allow cover images. You may want to swap out some images to freshen up the look on your Facebook Page, Threads or Bluesky profile, LinkedIn company page, and YouTube channel. Keep in mind that cover image graphic dimensions vary per network. 4. New or unused features. As social networks continue to add new features, keeping up with them can be a challenge. Take some time to review features that you may not have set up that could be useful, such as action buttons on Facebook Pages. 5. Policies and Guidelines. Review the privacy policies, community guidelines, and Terms of Service that you’ve uploaded and linked to from your social networks. Pointing people to these documents is an important part of customer service and may be a legal protection for your company as well. Make sure they are updated or if you don’t have any available, work on these documents with your legal consultant and make them available online. 6. Industry-specific requirements. Some industries, such as medical and healthcare as well as financial, have stringent compliance-related rules guiding the use of social media. Re-familiarize yourself and your team with those guidelines. 7. Internal social media guidelines. If your company consists of more than just you, having some written guidelines for anyone within your company using social media personally as well anyone engaging in social media marketing on behalf of your company. These guidelines should outline best practices and company-specific processes and preferences. They should also state what is not acceptable and any action that could be taken if guidelines are violated. 8. Internal social media marketing process. Revisit how you and your team are using social media and look for ways to be more productive and proactive. Also, see if you can find ways to streamline and be more efficient. 9. Tools and subscriptions. Take a look at the third-party tools you use for social media content production, publishing, monitoring, and measuring. Are they still working for you? Are there new tools and software subscriptions that could increase productivity or efficiency? Consider adding those to the mix and eliminating anything that is outdated or ineffective. 10. Follower feedback. To stay on top of what your followers want and need from you, particularly via social media, ask them. Whether you use a social media poll or send out an email blast with a survey, gathering this kind of qualitative data can help you improve what you’re sharing on social media. As you can see, there are many ways you can refresh your social media marketing. Even if you just do a few of these things, you could see some positive results.
