Pinterest Announces Expansion of Resources for Small Businesses

Searches on Pinterest for “support small business” recently increased over 350%. Any small businesses struggling to move their products in this time of worldwide crisis should keep that in mind as they look for ways to tweak their online strategies.

Along with that noteworthy statistic, Pinterest announced the expansion of resources for small businesses and that it joined the #StandForSmall coalition, which consists of over 40 corporations. This coalition has organized information and resources in response to small business needs during the coronavirus crisis. You can access all of this from StandForSmall.com.

"Small businesses are pivotal to our economy and pivotal to Pinterest,” said Pinterest CEO and co-founder Ben Silbermann. “Their goods and services inspire people all over the world to create the lives they love.”

Pinterest has rounded up its own resources for small businesses. These include the Pinterest Shop, its verified merchant program, product catalogs, small business tips, communication guidelines, Pinterest Academy, and Pinterest Business.

Pinterest Shop

The Pinterest Shop is a destination where people can find and buy products from small businesses and other creators. With a significant boost now from consumers interested in supporting small businesses, this is a great place for businesses to get their products to appear.

Verified Merchant Program

Pinterest’s verified merchant program is a free program for businesses to gain more exposure. It also allows you to show shoppers that your profile and pins meet Pinterest’s guidelines, which adds credibility to the listings. As the company describes it, the program helps shoppers discover and buy from vetted brands.

Product Catalogs

Product catalogs were introduced a little over a year ago. This is a tool that enables you to easily upload a full product catalog to Pinterest and turn your product listings into "shoppable pins," not unlike this example of denim brand, Levi’s:

Communication Guidelines

They also shared guidance on how to communicate with Pinterest users during a time of crisis. This includes a guide on how to create content to help people cope.
